    Food affects or body in numerous ways. Good food improves metabolism, energy levels and boosts collagen that gives us beautiful looking skin. Other than beautiful skin, good diet can also help us maintain a healthy weight that can transform the way we look.

1.Hydration, Hydration, Hydration

Drinking more water helps keep skin hydrated and has a positive effect on skin’s physiology. Research suggests that people who drank more water had a good chemical balance and hydrated skin physiology when tested.

Water is crucial for the functioning of our body at cellular level. Hydrating yourself is necessary to keep our skin feeling elastic and supple. Water also helps flush out toxins from our body and improves blood circulation that results in better maintenance and nutrition of skin cells.

Water in our body, help the kidneys flush our toxins that cause breakouts. Better water intake is also associated with reduction in skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema. 

2.Cut Sugar

Excessive sugar in one’s diet can cause aging skin. Our skin is made up of collagen that gives it its elasticity and keeps it taught. Consuming more sugar results in cross linkage of collagen that causes the skin to lose its elasticity.

Instead of consuming processed sugar, switching to natural sugars such as honey and fruits as dessert is a better option. Limiting processed sugar in diet can also help your body reduce the production of insulin that produces more oil on your skin that can cause acne.

A higher level of sugar in your system can also cause inflammation that can contribute to appearance of redness, irritation or allergies on various parts of your body such as your back. Therefore, it is important to reduce the amount of sugar you consume and keep your diet healthy.

3.Limit Dairy

A research showed that individuals of all ages who consumed dairy products such as cheese, milk, butter beyond moderation were prone to developing acne. Dairy products contain growth hormones that can speed up the production of insulin, or cause hormone imbalance that can cause acne.

Experts suggest taking dairy products in moderation if you have skin problems such as acne, dryness and discoloration. It is better to opt for food products that are dairy-free. Instead of cow or buffalo milk, you can switch to almond milk or soy milk that is also nutritious.

4.Switch to Organics

Organic food is grown without the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides etc. Organic food is usually lower in calories and has a low glycemic index. Consuming dietary fiber rich organic vegetables, fruits and pulses can help you feel fuller and get nutrition. 

When you eat a nutritious diet, your body has the right elements that it needs to function properly. A good diet can help your body shed excess fat. Fat is present all over our body including our face. Losing excess fat on your face can help your face look more symmetrical and highlight your features.

5.Low processed foods

Low processed foods have less calories and retain most of their nutrition. Low processed food can be simple food recipes such as boiled or steamed vegetables, fish and meat. These foods have been proven to give your body a boost of energy. They also have less calories and hence help maintain a healthy body weight.

6.Herbs and spices

Herbs and spices have anti-inflammatory effects on the body. Herbs and spices such as rosemary, cinnamon, turmeric, and peppermint when consumed in drinks, tea, salads and other recipes help improve digestion and gut health.  

Spices such as chili can increase your body’s temperature that increases sweating of your skin. Sweating is good for your skin to help give you a healthy and natural glow temporarily although it has several other benefits in the long term. 

These herbs and spices also help flush out toxins from our body reducing the risk of inflammation and acne. However, it is important to consume these herbs and spices in moderation to make sure that you do not get any adverse reactions from over consumption.

7.Fish, Eggs and Red Meat

Eggs and red meat are high-protein sources. Protein builds muscle and improves collagen production. Fatty fish is rich in omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 is essential for brain function, it also helps reduce inflammation in the body. 

As per research, consuming fish helps cure skin dryness and cracking of skin. Fish oil is often used for medicinal purposes for treatment of skin-related problems. Fish oil supplements are used to treat skin infections and hyperpigmentation. 

8.Dark Leafy Greens

Dark leafy green vegetables have loads of nutrients that help your body in numerous ways. They are good sources of Vitamin A that help reduce oil and skin greasiness as well as get rid of acne. Vitamin E protects the skin from free radical damage and folate repairs DNA that amps the production of new skin cells.

Fresh leafy greens are also good for water retention in your body. The leafy greens such as spinach, iceberg, kale and others add crispiness and flavor to salads, sauces and pastas which makes them an excellent addition to your diet. 

9.Skip Alcohol

Alcohol inhibits your body’s natural function of filtering out free radicals and toxins. This hinders body’s regular maintenance of cells. When body suffers to keep itself maintained, the effect is directly on skin that starts to age prematurely.

10.Vitamin C

Vitamin C can reduce the occurrence of wrinkles and fine lines, and also gives your skin a healthy glow. Many skincare products such as serums, moisturizers and face wash contain Vitamin C to boost your natural beauty.

The best way to replenish vitamin C is to eat more citrus fruits that are full of vitamin C. Eating citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges and grapefruits can help boost collagen production and natural healing of skin cells. Citrus fruits are also very hydrating that make your skin appear supple and plump.
